Weather conditions make access difficult on the Lebanon-Syria border

Conditions are very bad in Lebanon
Maha* escaped Syria into Lebanon through an illegal crossing with her
four children. Since then her home was bombed by the Syrian army, and
her husband- who was arrested and imprisoned for a month- is unable to
join her as his identification documents were confiscated.
She
lives with her four children in a cold empty warehouse in Wadi Ahmed.
“My children get terrified when they hear the sounds of bombings from
across the border,” said Maha, explaining that the situation is too much
for children to bear.
Maha depends on the support of her
brother-in-law, Osama, who is an electrician and tries to find work
doing odd jobs. “Sometimes I work twice a week, sometimes none,”
explained Osama.
“We can’t go back to Syria because we entered
Lebanon illegally trying to escape the clashes. If we return, we might
be imprisoned.” The last Maha heard, her husband was hiding in the
factory where he works as an accountant.
Maha and her family have
been trying to keep warm through the winter in the cold region of
northern Lebanon by setting down cardboard boxes on the floor.
Islamic
Relief provided the family with food, a family hygiene kit and blankets
to help them through the winter. “I thank Islamic Relief for their
help; the blankets mean that my children are now able to cover up their
tiny bodies during the extremely cold winter nights.”
