One week of heavy rainfall, upstream floods and landslides in the low-lying region of small hills have directly affected more than 250,000 persons in Bangladesh.

Hundreds of homes are reported to be washed away, and local government authorities are supporting families in emergency shelters, schools and high land. Flooding has disrupted the road communication with the affected areas and has put other major community infrastructures including embankments, rail tracks and bridges under risk.

Islamic Relief is implementing an immediate emergency flood response in Sylhet. 500 households will receive rice, chira, oil, lentils, sugar and salt, as well as non-food items such as polythene sheets, match boxes and candles.

Islamic Relief will coordinate and complete another assessment in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Chittagong region within next 72 hours.
