"Our disaster
response staff are on standby for deployment"
Islamic Relief is monitoring the Rohingya and Rakhine conflict in
Myanmar with great concern. While there is clearly a great and urgent
need for external assistance, at present Islamic Relief has no
registration allowing us to work in Myanmar. However, our disaster
response staff are on standby for deployment.
As the situation
develops, Islamic Relief’s programme department is pursuing all
opportunities to officially register in Myanmar and it has also asked
its Bangladesh office to explore ways in which any assistance can be
organised from their side of the border.
We are also actively
exploring other options; the Humanitarian Department is in close contact
with local NGOs and INGOs who are active in Myanmar. We are also in
contact with the UNHCR representatives in Myanmar to get their
up-to-date assessments and we are also assessing whether we can work
with local partners and are keeping close contact with them.
