Barclays Bank has donated a truck to Islamic Relief as a generous gesture of support for the organisation’s humanitarian work around the world.
The surprise donation came after Barclays Corporate Manager, Alan Perry, visited staff at Islamic Relief and learnt that the charity needed to buy a new truck.
After offering to help locate a suitable vehicle, the Barclays team in Birmingham decided to buy the truck and present it to Islamic Relief as a donation. Mr Perry later told Islamic Relief that the Barclays team has always had great respect for Islamic Relief and considered it to be one of the most interesting organisations based in Birmingham.
“We made the decision on a local level, based on our interaction with Islamic Relief over the years,” explained Mr Perry. “It was a unique event that is completely apart from our national business strategy,” he said.
“Our intention was not to gain publicity for Barclays but simply to give our support to a local organisation that we greatly respect,” he added
