Thousands of Syrians have poured into north Lebanon this month using illegal border crossings to escape the violence unleashed on protesters by security forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad. It is estimated that 6,000 Syrians have been displaced amongst Lebanese villages in Akkar
Refugees from Syria are being hosted in Akkar, Lebanon predominantly by relatives. This has placed an additional burden on the already impoverished hosts. 50% of the inhabitants of Akkar are considered as living below the poverty line.
Islamic Relief has already delivered aid to 75 families, we supplied food, hygiene kits and clothing.
