On Saturday the 24th of December 2005, Islamic Relief handed over ten health clinics to the local authorities in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar, Indonesia.
The facilities include one community health centre, two sub-community health centres, four village maternity clinics in Aceh Besar, and three village integrated health posts in Banda Aceh.
Islamic Relief constructed and equipped the health clinics as part of the organization’s efforts to rebuild Aceh in response to the 26th December 2004 Tsunami.
The handover ceremony will include dance and music performances and a “convoy” to visit the newly constructed clinics.
IR in Indonesia
Islamic Relief has been constructing homes, building health clinics, rebuilding schools, providing water, supporting orphans and supporting the people of Aceh. Islamic Relief’s post-Tsunami activities have benefited about 150,000 people in Aceh.
Since 2000, Islamic Relief has been overseeing relief and community development projects throughout Indonesia. Islamic Relief began Tsunami relief operations in Aceh on the 27th of December, one day after the Tsunami.

Islamic Relief and the UNDP worked with survivors of Meuraxa
subdistrict on this community project. The project was designed as part
of a wider set of rehabilitation activities implemented by the United
Nations agencies to respond to the needs of the communities in Aceh and
Nias.
